Black Hawk Down
Mark Bowden
549 pages

This is about the US involvement in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. In particular this depicts a raid US special forces (Rangers, Delta, PJ's and SEAL units) undertook which went south in a big way. This included the downing of three Blackhawk helicopters, hence the title. This was the raid which lead to the retreat of the US forces from Somalia, despite the fact that the mission succeeded in its goals and managed to keep at bay thosuands of Somalies with not even 200 men.

Written in a dramatic style where the poin of view jumps between the various participants of the battle, based on exhaustive research, including interviews with many of the people involved. If you're interested in what a battle "feels" like, this is a good book.
