….how fed up I am of seeing things I blogged about over a year ago now being written about in the Guardian as though they were something new?
Note to newspapers: do keep up.

July 8, 2008 at 7:37 amAs a US citizen, I’ve been depressed about my own country’s politics, but watching the BBC sometimes I wonder who has it worse. It’s fun to see Jeremy Paxman grill some Home Office flack over the 42-day rule until it dawns on me that it has no consequences. Tessa Jowell and her lawyer for tainted blood merchants husband still walk free.
New Labour imposes iron discipline, so your local MP has to hew to the sleazy party platform and justify its shenanigans to the local voters. The Tories will always be a bunch of thieves, sociopaths and Nazi country squires.
In the US, the Democratic party leadership and the majority of Democratic leggislators are about as bad as New Labour, but at least we have a chance to challenge them in a primary vote. Doesn’t always come off so well, but it’s a chance.
I blame the BBC. If Dutch TV carried Fox News instead of CNN (which is bad enough) I’d probably be more depressed about US politics.
Think there will ever be a moment when masses of Labour voters will say “fuck it, I’m voting Lib Dem?” (or Scottish National Party?)
