No Award All the Things

Hugo Awards voting is open. Last year I was late with reading and voting because I’d only decided a couple of months before the con to actually get involved. This year it’s slightly easier as I prepared better, but mostly because the Puppies made it pointless to do anything but vote No Award in the following categories, either completely Puppy swept or with a majority of Puppy candidates:

  • Best Novella
  • Best Novelette
  • Best Short Story
  • Best Related Work
  • Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form
  • Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form
  • Best Editor, Short Form
  • Best Editor, Long Form
  • Best Professional Artist
  • Best Fanzine
  • Best Fancast
  • Best Fan Writer
  • John W. Campbell Award (not a Hugo)

No Award All the Things!

Sorry Thomas Olde Heuvelt, you may actually get your Hugo this year, but since you’re the only candidate there on merit I felt uneasy voting for you by default. Better luck next year.

I’d have voted Heuveldt for a Hugo if I thought that story was the best, but I didn’t like it, and didn’t feel comfortable giving it a Hugo for having honestly made it to the finals, as it were.

OTOH I differ with you in that if I had really thought that story deserved a Hugo I’d have placed it above No Award. I realize it’s suboptimal that it would not then have to compete with a ballot full of actual peers, but we all draw that line in different places.

I have “prelim voted” which is to say put in my preliminary wishes with the intent of refining things as I have time to read everything and give it more consideration. This way if I get hit by a bus tomorrow (not that it’s likely, in my rural county) my anti-slate protest will still register.

Lame. If you no award all the things I hope VoxDay goes through with his threat to no award all the things always for the future. It would serve you right.

VoxDay is a piece of shit and Correria may be one too, but Correria is right when he says read the books, vote with your preference.

It’s pathetic that these guys complain about their imaginary exclusion and you idiots turn around and say “Lies! We’ll see about that, how do you like being… excluded!”

They’re not being excluded, they’re being punished. Do try and keep up.

And Vox Day can bluster all he wants, he’s just a serial failure.
