Last week I was looking for something light and funny to read on my commute to work and found this book in my to read pile. I had picked it up a while ago, along with some other P. G. Wodehouse books with the vague plan of reading them someday. I had seen some episodes of the tv series (starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie), previously so I knew roughly what to expect.
For those unfamiliar with the books, they star Bertie Wooster, a gentleman of leisure and his faithful gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves. In each story, Bertie, or one of his improbably named aristocratic chums lands himself in the soup and it's Jeeves who gets them out again. Often, the plots revolve around Bertie wishing to avoid romantic entanglements and shudder marriage. This book is no exception, though part of the plot entanglements also revolves around his aunt's wishes to acquire a silver cow creamer.
The plot basically consists of a series of obstacles poor Bertie has to win through, with the not inconsiderable aid of Jeeves, to set everything right and make sure his cozy little life stays cozy. Frequently hilaric, with razor sharp wit and some very astute observations by the writer.
