Republicans and “those” people

Steve Gilliard discusses the way the Republican Party treats Black people as children, the inanity of bigots calling others racist (especially when clueless about the race of the person they’re decrying) and why he doesn’t not give a fuck what Instacracker or other rightwing loons think of him:

Time and again, I have seen conservatives act as if black people are too stupid to pick up a newspaper. Or watch CNN. That we would actually consider their arguments as if we were small children and followed the Democratic Party because we didn’t know any better. The idea that black people make complex, thought out political decisions seems to be alien to them. That black support for Democratic candidates is not a random or ignorant choice, but as complex as their choices. Not that they would respect that, since they hardly respect anything black people say or do. I’ve read both the Nation and NR on and off since the age of 16. I know exactly what they run in both magazines. However, it seems Goldberg was stunned by that little fact. Do I read every issue? Of course not. But I have read it over years.

What stunned me with the trolls was the idea that they could call me a racist and I would care. They came from NRO and Instapundit. I assumed that at best they were projecting. Conservatives make the assumption that liberals care what they think and will react to it.

There’s a tendency for liberals to try and be fair, to consider other viewpoints, so we get baited by them in debates on terms that they set. I’m going to act on the following: I don’t care what conservatives think. The NRO Corner thinks I’m a racist, I don’t care, their opinions on race are meaningless.

Instacracker doesn’t like what I say?

That’s the purpose of the exercise.

Bravo!

The Republican establishment thinks just because they’ve morphed from the open racism and hatred of a Strom Thurgood into something that masks its race hatred
with an outer layer of patronising concern and condescension. As if treating Black
people as wilful children rather than dangerous wild animals is any better!
