5 pm today, BBC news bulletin: Government in the person of John Prescott & Co announces it is to cancel next years government elections, because of ‘local government reorganisation’. The fact that this would put those elections way after Gordon Brown accedes to the throne, and therefore they won’t be tainted by Blair as PM, that’s just a handy byproduct. No planning there all, guv.
