Cognitive Dissonance
That Damned Liberal MSM
You’d think they’d learnt from their readership’s reaction last time.
But here the Guardian goes again, allowing Instacracker to try and get Cheney off the hook internationally and take a sidewsipe at liberal blogs while doing so. I quote ( though I feel dirty doing it) :
With a nod to the movie Spinal Tap, I would say the media treatment of Bush administration scandals “goes to 11”. This lack of proportion reflects poorly on the press and on Bush’s opponents (categories that often seem indistinct these days) but in some ways it actually benefits Bush and the Republicans.
There he goes, conflating the press with the opposition. Far from being the opposition, the press is the main conduit for Bushite propaganda and spin. I think what he means is less the actual press, ie print, radio and tv, the MSM as he and his ilk call it, than liberal bloggers.
But if liberal bloggers, (who are indeed the opposition) are ‘press’ , then Instawingnut is too. He’s supporting the administration in his blog – not only that, he’s finagled himself a semi-regular gig at the liberal elite, chatterati-led Grauniad. If it looks like press, sounds like press, it’s the opposition, says Glenn. According to his own logic, Reynolds opposes BushCo.
For his own safety, I hope his readers don’t find out.
