Amster Americablog!

John Aravosis of Americablog arrived in Amsterdam safely yesterday, and a good time was had by all.

Er, sorry, that didn’t come out quite right. Let me rephrase. 12 bloggers and US expats met up with John last night at the beautiful Belle Epoque Cafe Americain at Leidseplein for drinks and a rollicking deconstruction of US politics with a particular emphasis on the assholery of Bush & Cheney and the changes in Europe since John was last here. John’s a nice guy, I already feel like I’ve known him forever.

Present were Bicycle Mark, myself, Vaara and friend Mike, Martin Wisse, Michelle from Utrecht, Brian of Democrats Abroad NL, Brian Rose and his young son ( who has lovely manners) and many others I didn’t get the chance to talk to, as unfortunately this fluey thing was getting the better of me and I was about to throw up on poor Martin’s lap… not only that, we also had 3 very greedy cats waiting to be fed their daily half-a-whale mixed with chopped pignoses. From a can labelled ‘Gourmet’. They were most dissaproving that we dared to actually go out and then feed them late. Monty is still giving me a bit of the cold shoulder…

I’m staying in this morning in the warm with ibuprofen and a lot of coffee, in the vague hope that tomorrow I’ll feel well enough to be out and about again. There are rumours of a bike ride – I hope John brought a hat and gloves. It’s sunny for the moment, but sneeuw is forecast. I hope it does, there’ll be some nice Breughel-esque pictures for him to take home. And the cats don’t like snow so I’ll have my revenge. Give me the cold-shoulder, would you? Here’s cold shoulders for you, you ungrateful wretches….

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, washed the t-shirt 23 times, threw the t-shirt in the ragbag, now I'm polishing furniture with it.
