Desert Island Derivatives
As the current series of Desert Island Discs has ended, and Little Miss Stranglingly-Tight-Knickers, Sue Lawley, has taken her cut-glass vowels elsewhere, there is a lack of a certain something on a Sunday mornings.
Thanks then, to Shakespeare’s Sister for this handy replacement:

You get to take with you one of each of the following:
~ album
~ book
~ film
~ complete television series
Which do you take?
I take Morrissey’s Ringleader of the Tormentors, because, since it’s new, I’ve heard it the least, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Harold and Maude, and Six Feet Under, because I haven’t seen the last two seasons yet.
Me?
Album would be Glenn Gould’s Goldberg Variations, because I’ve been listening to it while gardening, and it’s one of the few pieces of music my younger son and I are totally sympatico on. The book, either the collected Mapp & Lucia ( all human life is there) or Arthur Mee’s Childrens’ Encyclopaedia in all its colonial colour-plate glory. Film would be Koyanisqatsi. I could watch it over and over. TV series, I’m torn over whether to choose Blue Planet or the new series on BBC 2 of colour films from the late 1920’s, The Lost World Of Frieze-Green. or at least that’s what I’d choose this morning. Tomorrow it might be something else entirely – that’s the fun of desert island games.
It wouldn’t be a proper desert island game without a luxury to choose as well, so I’ll add to the list
– luxury item ( not to be used for escape)
Mine would be an inexhaustible teapot, sugar bowl and milkjug. Unless I were to attempt to bail out the ocean with it, I fail to see it’s utility as an esacpe vector. And it would cheer me up no end to have a cup of tea when needed.
