Much Twonkery In-The-Marsh, USA

Thank you so much, Alicublog for pointing at this little pile of twaddle from Josh Trevino about the 7 July London bombings’ anniversary.

Enchiridion Militis indeed. The Manual of the Christian Knight – how up himself can a blogger get? You know, Prog Gold is ugly and even strident, but at least it’s not pretentious.
Leaving Trevino’s delusions of grandeur aside, it’s not so much the way he seems to be blaming us British for not having been brought to our knees by the bombings and having not, as a result, slaughtered every Moslem in the country just in case (though we seem to have made a start on the Brazilians) as his commenters.
They’re just so horribly, tragically Anglophile; they sound as though they’ve been purposely gorging on Trollope and Austen, in order to then chuck it all up in a polysyllabic torrent of pompous pastiche all over Trevino’s blog. Honestly, it’s like an explosion at Ralph Lauren Polo but with much less dignity. A case in point:

“It is this shattering inability to reckon with reality that kindles in me a desire to simply turn away, to turn away so as not to witness the insalubrious spectacle of a society so etiolated

Etolated, wooo, there’s posh.

as to manifest no righteous anger, but only either indifference or further rounds of self-inquisition. It is this spiritual torpor, this unconscious despondency of the national soul, in which, bewitched by the illusion that there is virtue in national self-abnegation, Britain imagines that she will manifest virtue by courting the favour of those who, if they only remain true to what they are… “

….blah blah blah, yeah, we get it, you’re not one of the ordinary dumbfuck wingnuts, you’re an educated wingnut. You’ve got couth, and a full set of Dickens.

You’re still a bloody wingnut though, and that outweighs everything else.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, washed the t-shirt 23 times, threw the t-shirt in the ragbag, now I'm polishing furniture with it.
