UPDATE Nemesis watch: It’s 6 loyalist resignations now and the chatter is getting ever more frantic. A minister, Tom Watson, has resigned, though Blair, like a petulant teenager who’s been dumped, says he was going to sack him anyway. Yeah, right.
Oooh, this is fun, I do love a good Westminster feeding frenzy and the hated Blair well desrves it. More presently.
Wait For it, Wait For It….
So, two resignations but not the one we all want. I’m tired of doing the patience on a monument thing, though I’m definitely not smiling at grief for this Thatcherian last-days rerun.
Two quit government in Blair protest
Two members of Tony Blair’s government this morning resigned in protest at his refusal to publicly name a date for his departure.Tom Watson resigned as a junior defence minister and Khalid Mahmood quit as a parliamentary private secretary. Both had signed yesterday’s round robin letter demanding a timetable for the handover of power from the PM.
I have only one thing to say. Just fucking go, already!
Risking my reputation as a political seer, such as it is, I give him until tomorrow afternoon, but I’m hoping he doesn’t even make it through the day. The thought of Gordon Brown stepping in does not appeal though, so it may be a few days while the machinery fopr a leadership contest is cranked up.
