Israel and the Arabs: an elusive peace

Ellis Sharp saw the BBC documentary, got annoyed and posted about the real reason why peace is elusive:

If you want to know why peace is elusive, you need to begin with what happened when, on November 29 1947, the United Nations voted to partition Palestine. The UN allocated the Jewish immigrants 55.5 per cent of Palestine ? eleven times the area of the land they already occupied. Inside the designated boundaries of that future Jewish state were half a million Arabs, who outnumbered the Jews whose sectarian state they were now deemed to be second class citizens of. The rest of the population ? some 1.36 million Palestinians ? were given what was left over.

Out of that original monstrous historic injustice emerged the state of Israel. And all that followed.
