When Fundies and Kittens Collide

Submitted without comment, because really, what is there to say about such complete and utter dumbassery?

KARE Minneapolis/St Paul:

Holy Cat: Jesus spotted on kitten’s fur Updated: 7/29/2008 9:59:39 PM

A kitten is being called a “Holy Cat,” or a feline with Jesus on her side? literally.

Ten weeks ago, a family from Goshen, Indiana rescued two kittens after their mother abandoned them.

The family noticed one of the kittens, Sissy, had markings on her fur that look like Jesus.

Whether or not you see it doesn’t matter to the family. They believe it’s a sign of good things to come.

I’m going out into the garden as I can’t take much more of this stupidity. At least plants aren’t greedy, gullible or stupid. (Well, nasturtiums are, but everyone knows they’re the chavs of the legume family.)

Why the dancing cat illustration? Because it’s cute. Because it’s a cat. What more reason do I need?

The Measure of The Man

Having already abused his current wife in public (having handily divested himself of the previous Mrs. McCain to marry this one for her money) Republican candidate John McCain shows consistency in his attitude towards women:

The blog Rum, Romanism and Rebellion unearthed a 1986 newspaper article reporting an insensitive and sexist joke McCain was said to have made.

Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, ‘Where is that marvelous ape?’

Women’s groups slammed McCain at the time for making the joke; it remains to be seen how much its reemergence will hurt the Republicans’ ongoing attempts to woo women voters.

When the article first appeared, McCain’s campaign denied he had made the joke, but the reporter who wrote the article stands by the story.

Well. That’ll go down well with the voters.

So Very True

Attaturk sums up The Neoliberal Years:

    Modern America:

Late 1980s:

WE MUST DEREGULATE BANKS!

Mid-1990s:

YAY, We’ve Deregulated Banks and we’re exploiting the masses to become richer than ever!

EARLY 2000s:

Look at how awesome De-Regulating the banks has been, you people criticizing it are engaging in class warfare! All these bankruptcies are abusive of us rich people, we need to make those laws tougher…WE NEED TO REGULATE THE MASSES!

About 2007:

Nothing is wrong except the masses are suckers, don’t blame us. We’re rich. They need to pay off their loans. Good thing we made bankruptcy so hard for ’em.

Mid- 2008:

GODDAMN, WE’RE IN TROUBLE, WE NEED THE MASSES TO BAIL US RICH FOLKS OUT OR WE’RE TAKING ALL OF YOU BASTARDS WITH US!!!!!!!!!!

It’s Getting Hot Over There

Gasmap is a service that maps the US petrol price nationwide and maps it in terms of heat. As you can see, California is boiling.

This does not bode well. But hey, at least the site proves there’s still new niche markets to exploit, even in a recession and inflationary spiral.

Sarcasm aside, it is a very informative site. A comprehensive view of how the rest of the country is doing can only be useful for consumers, if only for the schadenfreude for heartlanders of seeing how much those up-themselves west and east-coasters have to pay.

However I fail to see the utility of being able to see where gas is cheap, if you have to use the expensive gas to go get the cheap gas.

Foxed Up Beyond All Recognition

Media Matters has caught Fox News photoshopping pictures of NY Times reporters critical of Fox, to make them look sinister and ugly.

On the July 2 edition of Fox News’ Fox & Friends, co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade labeled New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe “attack dogs,” claiming that Steinberg’s June 28 article on the “ominous trend” in Fox News’ ratings was a “hit piece.” During the segment, however, Fox News featured photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered — the journalists’ teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and portions of Reddicliffe’s hair moved further back on his head. Fox News gave no indication that the photos had been altered.

Is it me, or is there a flavour of some of those anti-Jewish caricatures of the thirties?

Fox employees’ve given up all pretence to being journalists of any description.
