Steve Gillard over at the
Daily Kos talks about taxes:
It doesn’t matter if Bush cuts your federal taxes if your property and sales taxes climb, costing you hundreds of dollars more a year. Any federal refund will be more than gobbled up by local and state hikes on everything from parking tickets to hunting licenses.
[…]
At the end of the day, you need to ask: do you want a federal tax refund and convicts released early from jail or aid to the states and localities which could prevent the worst budget cuts? I think most people might pass on the $300 to keep from firing teachers and emptying jails.

The Sideshow on the Democratic Leadership Council:
The Republicans didn’t do this by themselves. The DLC should be regarded as no more than a fifth column in the party at best. It’s time to get yourselves together and compose one whopping letter to your Dem reps and to your local party and tell them that if they don’t get their act together, there’ll be hell to pay. Tell them:
- No more liberal-bashing.
- No more bashing Dems who have a real chance of getting nominated.
- Stop pretending Lieberman represents the party or the mainstream of our country.
- Stop pretending that universal health-care is a fruity, out-of-the-mainstream idea.
- Start calling Bush what he really is – an extremist conservative.
- Quit attacking Hollywood content while sucking up to Hollywood on file-sharing.
- Scream bloody murder about the lack of accountability in election machinery.
- Stop Michael Powell’s FCC giveaway – the FCC isn’t just there to punish Howard Stern for using sexy language.
- Stand up for working people.
- Stand up for free speech.
- Stand up for an informed America.
- Stand up for public schools.
- Stand up for our Constitutional rights.
- Stand up for liberal values or get out of town.
This is serious business; if these people can’t figure out what their job is, they should get another job. Tell them you’ll be happy to help, because you know what primaries are.

Ted Rall by way of Free Pie has some election advice for the Democrats:
Go after Bush’s ultimate Achilles’ heel: run countless loops of the inarticulate Resident’s clashes with the English language. “Too dumb to talk,” a sinister voiceover reads. “Too stupid to trust.” Use time-proven Republican methods, like name-calling: Extremist. Out of touch. Tax and spender. Hates workers. Racist. Homophobe. Corrupt CEO coddler. Idiot. Drunk. Cut to the post- pretzel-incident photo: “America needs a sober president.”
Forget ideas–voters respond to the personal stuff. Dwell on the two years Bush went AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. “Brave Americans gave their lives in Vietnam,” a 30-second spot should intone as the camera pans over names of the fallen on the black wall in Washington. “Rich kid George W. Bush deserted. This coward snorted coke and drove drunk while other kids died.” Who doubts that if Gore had played up Bush’s DUI arrest, he would have picked up an extra 500 votes in Florida?

Alas a Blog on the Zionist lobby:
Okay, let’s get this out of the way right now: There is a zionist lobby in America. They work hard to influence policy, they spend a lot of money promoting politicians they like, and they have a lot of influence in the Bush administration.
So what?
Everyone has a lobby. The major media have a lobby. The Chinese government has a lobby. The farmers have a lobby. Why the heck shouldn’t the zionists have a lobby? And of course they spend money and influence policy; that’s the whole point of having a lobby.
This is so obvious, it’s boring.
