It’s official: Worldcon 75 will be held in Helsinki, as it should be. Even if the North-American vote hadn’t been split between Washington and Montreal, Helsinki would’ve won. Barring accident, it’ll be the second worldcon I’ll be going to, but I wonder how hard it would be to do by train from Amsterdam to Helsinki?

August 24, 2015 at 1:48 amIf I was doing Amsterdam Helsinki by surface transport, I’d probably take a train from Amsterdam to Copenhagen as the first step, then across from Copenhagen to Malmö, then train up to Stockholm, then take the ferry across from there to Helsinki.
I think Amesterdam to Copenhagen involves changing trains in Hamburg, but it’s been quite a while since I specced that route out.

August 24, 2015 at 12:46 pmIf you want to be purist about it there are frequent trains from Copenhagen to Malmö or Stockholm over the Øresund bridge these days.

August 25, 2015 at 1:41 pmWhen I still lived in Delft, I’d sometimes take the bus (Eurolines) from Den Haag to Stockholm. Then a ferry to Helsinki. Took ages, but I had some wonderful conversations with the people on the bus and made some true friends..
