{"id":11725,"date":"2026-09-14T10:27:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T15:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloggie.org\/wissewords2\/?p=11725"},"modified":"2026-09-14T10:27:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T15:27:20","slug":"metal-monday-anthrax-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cloggie.org\/wissewords2\/2026\/09\/14\/metal-monday-anthrax-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Metal Monday: Anthrax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nIt was 1988, I was fourteen in my second year of high school and the one other metalhead\/comics reader in my class brought in <cite>Among the Living<\/cite>: &#8220;look they&#8217;re doing a song about Judge Dredd&#8221;:\n<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1323\" height=\"744\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/daVomCPkrbg\" title=\"Anthrax - I Am The Law (Live, Sofia 2010) [HD]\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\nThat day we poured over the liner notes in which the band members put shoutouts to their then favourite authors and characters: Stephen King, Frank Miller, Daredevil, Batman, Alan Moore, Judge Dredd, all of which was catnip to me, a nascent comics geek. The late eighties was when American comics, mostly American superhero comics became salonfahig in the Netherlands, or maybe it was just me having discovered them roughly a yaear before. In any case seeing my own interests shared by sucha cool band made me an Anthrax fan.\n<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1323\" height=\"992\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/be7iNHw8QoQ\" title=\"Anthrax - Got The Time\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\n<cite>Among the Living<\/cite> has always been my favourite Anthrax record for these reasons, but that whole run from <cite>Fistful of Metal<\/cite> to <cite>Sound of White Noise<\/cite> is essential thrash metal. That last one was the first with Jon Bush as lead singer instead of Joey Belladonna and also was somewhat more &#8230;experimental and I lost interest in their later albums to be honest. <cite>Persistence of Time<\/cite> was the last Anthrax album with the classic lineup and it speaks to the band&#8217;s broadmindness that one of the lead singles was a Joe Jackson cover (which came as a real shock decades later when I first heard the original&#8230;)\n<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1323\" height=\"744\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FQ3WZaKjHNQ\" title=\"Anthrax, Public Enemy - Bring Tha Noize (Official Music Video)\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\nAnthrax also introduced me to Public Enemy thanks to them touring together and doing collabs like &#8220;Bring Tha Noize&#8221;.
